         According to Aithihyamala, the well known sacred village,  Mookkuthala is known as Mukthisthala which was revived by Sri Sankaracharya during the 19th century. Pakaravur Manakkal Sri Chithran Namboodirippad started a school here in June 1946 and it becomes  a leading lamp in the path of education. Before the establishment of this school the natives were compelled to travel to Kumaranellur in Palakkad district, for their schooling. At that time Sri  Chithran Namboodirippad  just retuned from Madras University securing his B.A. honours. He decided  to overcome the pathetic condition of his natives and started a high school.

        A.V. Kuttikrishna Menon ,who is a famous Gandhian and educationalist inagurated the school. At the beginning their were only 166 students. Kizhakke Kovilakath Cheriya Kunjettan Raja was the first head master of this school and Ponkunnam Damodaran , Vidwan Krishnan Master, P.P,Venkidachalam. Were some of the devolved and efficient teachers of that period.
                                               
          In 1949 the first batch completed their S.S.L.C. Sri  Chithran Namboodirippad  took charge as the head master in 1957 oct.1 the school was handed over to the  E.M.S. Government for a nominal rate of one rupee. At that time Prof.Joseph Mundasseri was the educational minister. Through the glorious deed  Chithran Namboodiripad  expressed his commitment. Towards the society
          The school was upgraded as Higher Secondary School in 2000.  Chithran Namboodiripad  has made many unique contributions in the field of education. As a joint director a  major role in modifying the school youth festival and sports in the present state.

           Later the school was renamed as Pakaravur  Chithran Namboodiripad  govt. Higher Secondary School
Namboodiripad's honour.  The school is functioning in U.P, H.S, and H.S.S. Sections with 2000 children and nearly 100 teachers and non-teaching staff.

           Today the school standing as the shining star of education and culture of mookkuthala.    .
